A family surprised a grandmother on her 85th birthday by recreating one of the traditions created by her late husband.
Alicia Salas posted photos to Twitter Saturday of her grandmother, Josie Reza, clutching a framed photo of her grandfather as a mariachi band played “Las Mañanitas,” Salas told Buzzfeed News.
The song was one of the last memories Reza shared with her husband before he died.
“Today’s my Grandma’s 85th,” Salas wrote. “We had a mariachi for the first time since my grandpa passed. She’s hugging his picture.”
In another photo, Reza looks at the photo of her husband longingly as the band serenades her.
Salas said her grandmother used to enjoy the music with her grandfather and that she missed him “very much every day.”
“We all miss him,” Salas wrote.
The family decided hire the band to ensure Reza’s birthday was extra special, “considering it was a milestone for her,” Salas said.
Salas’ tweet caused a stir on the social media platform, with hundreds of users responding with crying memes, gifs and emojis.
