Earlier this week, Pennsylvania State football player, Joey Julius, used social media to address some secret demons he’s been facing in the form of anxiety, depression and a binge eating disorder.
The 258 pound player spoke to the world about his absence from the team this past spring and summer.
“I was admitted into the McCallum place on May 9th for eating disorders. Due to my increase in not only weight but also depression and anxiety my team physicians started to notice not only a change in my overall happiness but also my performance as a normal human being.”
“Throughout this whole process I learned a lot about myself. I learned that for the last 11 years of my life I have suffered through a disorder known as binge eating disorder. Although I showed signs of bilemia through stints of purging from extreme anxiety placed on myself I am certain that binge eating disorder is my true diagnosis thru extensive care this summer for about three months of treatment in St. LOUIS Missouri until July 26th.”
The 21-year-old player also thanked his family, friends, coaches and offered help to anyone who might be going through a similar fight.
Yet, what we loved most out of Julius’s message is this: “Praise be to God and thank him for my ability to be honest about this.”
Amen.
And of course we got to give some love to all of the supporters out there.
Love this guy. Hopefully he can help others: Penn State kicker Joey Julius was treated for an eating disorder https://t.co/1w5RgBNWPx
