A couple of years ago, Russell Wilson made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The devout Christian shocked the country when he and now ex-wife Ashton Meem announced they were divorcing. The pair were college sweethearts and wed shortly after graduating.
Now, the NFL star and his new wife Ciara announced via Instagram they are expecting:

On Twitter, he added a popular Bible verse from Jeremiah that speaks to just how intimate our relationship with God really is:
#BVD ““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…"
Jeremiah 1:5 NIV— Russell Wilson (@DangeRussWilson) October 26, 2016
The pair have been vocal about their faith since the start. Wilson described one of their early conversations, including abstinence:
“And so anyways I told her right then and there, what would you do if we took all that extra stuff off the table and just did it Jesus’ way?”
“I said to her, and she completely agreed: ‘Could we love each other without that?’ If you can really love somebody without that, then you can really love somebody,” Wilson said.
Ciara explained to media Earlier this year she was thankful for Wilson because she’d been praying to find a God fearing man, and thankfully “God had a plan” to work that all out.
“Marriage is something I look forward to. I believe in family, and the beauty of two people committing to spend their lives together.”
Ciara also posted the news on Instagram, quickly thanking God for the blessing.

“I’m excited to Finally share on of the Greatest Gifts of All that God could give…”
Ciara has a son from a previous relationship, while Russell is dad for the first time.
When they first met, Wilson felt God calling him to ‘lead‘ Ciara to faith.
“I met this girl named Ciara who was the most beautiful woman in the world, the most kind person, the most engaging person, everything that I could ever want,” he said.
“She was on tour and I was looking at her in the mirror, and she was sitting there. And God spoke to me and said ‘I need you to lead her.’ And I was like, ‘Really? Right now?’ And he goes, ‘No, I want you and need you to lead her.’ And I asked her, ‘What would you do if we took all that extra stuff off the table? And just did it Jesus’ way?’”
Looks like it’s working out just fine so far!
