A 17-year-old, high school student got a pre-Thanksgiving day surprise, when someone else’s grandmother invited him for a turkey day meal, slated for this Thursday.
The woman who has been identified by ABC 15 as the “grandmother” texted the high school teen with details about the family’s dinner time plans, because she thought it was her grandson.

Jamal Hinton was taken aback by the text message with the 3 pm time and asked if the Mesa, Arizona resident had the right person.
Hinton said, “I texted back and I said ‘who is this?’ And she was like, ‘it’s your grandma.'”
To double check, he asked for a selfie.
Jamal knew right away that there was a miscommunication and sent his selfie in return with a little note.

But the miscommunication didn’t matter. The local Arizona woman still wanted to keep the young man on the invite list.
Saying, “Of course you can. That’s what grandmas do…feed everyone!”
Hinton felt so much gratitude for the woman’s kindness that he shared the exchange with the public.
But, he forgot to remove the phone number and media reports have stated that the unidentified woman had received over 600 messages asking to join her family this Thanksgiving.
Even though the woman says she would not like to be identified and is grateful for the positive attention, she changed her phone number for safety reasons but still plans on having Hinton at her house this T-Day.
Hinton said, “People can actually connect and be so nice to each other with people they don’t even know,” in response to this divine conversation.
Social media had some awesome responses to the request:
This is so awesome. She is so gracious and beautiful! This is the American I miss! Have fun everyone & Happy Thanksgiving!
