In a bizarre twist to the attempted mass assault with a deadly weapon at Ohio State University yesterday, it has been revealed that the attacker feared for his safety, because he was a Muslim.
In an interview with a school publication, The Lantern, Abdul Razak Ali Artan discussed his concerns:
“I’m a Muslim, it’s not what the media portrays me to be,” he said.
“If people look at me, a Muslim praying, I don’t know what they’re going to think, what’s going to happen. But, I don’t blame them. It’s the media that put that picture in their heads so they’re going to just have it and it, it’s going to make them feel uncomfortable. I was kind of scared right now. But I just did it. I relied on God. I went over to the corner and just prayed.”

As for the motive of the attack, nothing has been officially confirmed but the signs point towards the obvious, especially given ISIS recently called for foreign lone wolf attacks using things like vehicles and knives. The Daily Mail reported:
While the motive for the attack is still unknown, there are questions about whether the assailant may have carried it out in jihad, since Somlia is a Muslim-majority country. The country has also become a haven for terror groups – including ISIS – since civil war broke out in the 1990s.
In the midst of this tragedy students are finding ways to be thankful – first and foremost on that list, the law enforcement officials who stopped this attack before lives were taken.
Ohio State University student Tyler Krupp took to Twitter to highlight what he’s thankful for amongst the discomfort and fear the shooting has brought to students and the American population.
Things I am thankful for today:
