Clay Luthy, who served in the Air Force and took part in three foreign deployments, couldn’t get a job anywhere because no one wanted to take him and his helper, a therapy dog named Charlotte.
Luthy never gave up, however, and his never quit attitude eventually paid off. He asked the manager at his local Texas Lowe’s, a retail home improvement giant, and they agreed to hire him on the spot.
Luthy, who has undergone multiple knee surgeries, said he felt like it was his duty to find a job.
“I can’t stand sitting at home” he told the local ABC News station. Now he and his 10-year old Golden Retriever dog Charlotte are plenty busy.
When the 35-year-old started, he made Charlotte a matching Lowe’s employee vest, and customers have clearly taken a special liking to both of them, but especially Charlotte.
Luthy previously told reporters the job at Lowe’s was ideal. “I can do pretty much everything. We grew up with nothing, so we fixed things and did it ourselves,” he explained.
In Luthy’s specific role, he travels around the warehouse like building to find out who needs help. People are taking notice. Judy Dechert Rose shared a sweet note about Luthy and Charlotte via Facebook.
Saying, “I love Abilene Lowes, way to go! This is a disabled vet who struggled to get a job because he needs a service dog! Lowes hired them Both!!!”

Luthy said that his inspiration for going into the Air Force was because of Sept. 11.
And his decision to work part-time, is so he can spend time with his family which includes watching his daughter play in the band at football games on Friday.
