A woman who recently found a deflated balloon in her yard was surprised to discover something inside: a touching note from a little boy to his deceased father.
After noticing the balloon and the letter within, Suzanne Edwards decided to publish a heartwarming response to the little boy on her Facebook page on Dec. 6, giving the child — whose name is Alexander — a message about his dad and heaven.
And, miraculously, through the power of social media, her compassionate response ended up reaching the boy and his mom, offering them some much-needed encouragement.
It all started after Edwards published the Facebook post in question, explaining how deeply impacted she was after finding the balloon; she also shared a picture of Alexander’s letter.
“Dad, I wish you were here so we could have fun together. I wish you a Merry Christmas,” Alexander wrote to his dad. “I hope you tell God to give me those presents. I hope you are happy in heaven. If you or OK then tell me. I love you.”
Edwards decided to use her post to inspire others to appreciate their own families, while also sending Alexander a message about heaven — one aimed at putting the little boy at ease.
“A helium balloon floated into my yard today and landed on my heart! Attached was a note that made me cry and hug my family a little tighter,” she said. “Facebook friends—go hug your loved ones and then share this post so that maybe my note will find this little boy just as his balloon found me!”
From there, Edwards went on to write an inspirational letter about heaven in an effort to comfort Alexander.
“To Alexander, I want you to know that Heaven is a wonderful place, more amazing than you or I can even imagine. It is a place where there is no pain and no worries,” she said. “I am certain that your daddy didn’t want to leave you or cause you to feel lonely or sad. But in Heaven, he is ok and he is happy. He wants you to be happy too! He will always love you and I am sure that you make him proud! Have a Merry Christmas!”
And as it turns out, Edwards’ kind response to the little boy ended up getting his mom’s attention, with Edwards writing an update explaining that the woman reached out to her to let her know how much the message meant to her family.
“The mother of this boy has reached out to me. She was very touched by my post, and did relay it’s message to her son,” Edwards wrote. “She said he had a tear of joy and was so glad to know his dad is happy. She called the experience a miracle.”
In the update to her original Dec. 6 post, Edwards thanked those who shared her initial message, saying she’s “in awe of the power of social media” and is glad she was able to glorify God with her response.
