In a four minute video, this farmer dancing is the perfect break America needs from the political dog & pony show happening in Washington, D.C. right now.
Jay Lavery is a 50 year old resident of upstate New York who set out to give people a reprieve from the divided banter surrounding the incoming President-elect Trump, who is sworn into office tomorrow.
The video is one of many created by Lavery over the last couple of years.
However this one gained momentum after it was publicly shared on YouTube.
In a Facebook message posted a few days ago, Lavery explained that, “My only intent for sharing this video with all of you was to spread some inspiration.”
The former New York city resident also added that his new found popularity has made him vulnerable to others sharing his message and video without his permission.
In an interview with Today Lavery said, “I figure when everyone’s depressed in the middle of winter, I like doing something stupid to make people smile.”
Especially, “Right now everyone is kind of looking for something that is not political, that is just putting you in your happy place.”
The original Facebook post was shared Dec. 30:
In the last few weeks, the former comedian has gotten praise from all over the world and wonderful stories about everyday heroes.
In a message posted within recent days, Lavery shared a “real hero” story.
“Thank you. thank you a thousand times over. you have no idea what your dancing farmboy video has done for me. see, i also struggle daily with chronic pain. i have fibromyalgia, and getting out of bed everyday, is literally a battle.”
The post continues with, “The pain has slowed me down to a crawl, but i keep moving, as much as i can. i watched your video while still lying in bed, my very active 2 yr old son beside me, my second baby wiggling inside me, and i cried. i have to move, for them. i have to move… i wasnt supposed to be able to have children, God has given me 2. i have to move… i have to go on. today the tv isnt going to drone away the day. instead i will crank the tunes and i will choose to move.”
