According to The Guardian, the government is in full control of the area after three months of combat between themselves and ISIS.
The Iraqi army’s Lt Gen Talib Shaghati told reporters in a recent press briefing that after this “big victory” the military planned to retake the western area of the city.
The senior official explained, “Important lines and important areas are finished … there is only a bit of the northern (front) remaining” a reference made to ISIS fighters that still sit at the Tigris river.
Earlier this month, Faithwire reported that the Iraqi military had made gains in the Southwestern portion of the city during what the armed men and women called the “second phase.”

This phase worked to liberate key southwestern districts with the help of 5,000 troops deployed and redirected to help take down ISIS.
The extremist first gained control of the Iraqi city in 2014 and has maintained steady control until the fall of this year when Iraqi and Kurdish forces fought to take back the area from the terrorist groups control.
Under the control of ISIS, Mosul has witnessed severe human rights atrocities, the destruction of Churches and the brainwashing of a reported 400,000 children.
