Pro-life group Live Action has released two more videos intending to prove that, at Planned Parenthood, “ultrasound machines generally only have one purpose: abortion.”
One of the videos — a new undercover clip titled, “Ultrasounds for Killing, Not Care, at Planned Parenthood,” features women calling or showing up at Planned Parenthood clinics across the U.S. to request ultrasounds to check the health of their babies.
“I was kind of hoping for an ultrasound, ’cause I would love to have … the pictures to make sure the baby’s healthy,” a woman said when she reportedly called an Indiana clinic. A purported Planned Parenthood staffer responded by saying that the organization cannot tell her if her baby is healthy, nor can the clinic provide the baby’s gender.
“We specialize in abortions,” the voice on the other end of the line proclaimed.
Another woman identified as a clinic worker at a New York location said the facility could only tell the woman if she was pregnant and then offer “to do the abortions.” The video presents some staff as saying that ultrasounds are only offered as part of an abortion, with certain Planned Parenthood locations that were purportedly called declining to offer ultrasounds for other purposes.
“We can’t do anything to make sure that the pregnancy’s fine,” one woman responded.

It should be noted that one clinic worker did inform a woman that, while her Planned Parenthood location couldn’t help with an ultrasound to check the health of the baby, there are other facilities in the area that could indeed do so.
In a separate clip, a woman named Sue Thayer, who is identified as a former Planned Parenthood manager, said that women who head to some of Planned Parenthood’s clinics aren’t even shown their ultrasounds.
“If Planned Parenthood is really about choice they would show women the ultrasound and they don’t,” Thayer told Live Action founder Lila Rose. “Not only would they never print a picture, but they turn the monitor away so the mom can’t see it.”

In a statement that followed the release of the clips, Live Action recapped the purported findings as follows: “Live Action released two new investigative videos that show Planned Parenthood has ultrasound technology available for abortions, but not for women who want to continue their pregnancies and check the health of their babies.”
According to the organization, 68 clinics were asked to provide ultrasounds to check the health of unborn babies, but only three centers offered that service; the remaining 65 reportedly either didn’t provide ultrasounds at all or only offered them for abortions.
These videos come after a previous undercover Live Action clip titled, “The Prenatal Care Deception,” a video that attempted to prove that many Planned Parenthood clinics don’t offer prenatal care. In putting that previous project together, Live Action said it contacted 97 facilities across 41 of Planned Parenthood’s affiliates, and found that only five facilities offered prenatal care for women who wished to carry their pregnancies to term.
After the previous video’s release, The New York Times reported that Planned Parenthood’s own annual 2014-2015 report indicated that just eight of the organization’s 59 affiliates at that time had offered prenatal services. And according to that same report, of the 9,455,582 total services that Planned Parenthood offered, just 17,419 were “prenatal.”
Planned Parenthood responded last week to the Live Action video, with a representative for the controversial women’s health care organization telling The New York Times that the organization is being held to a standard that it never set for itself.
“It is safe to say that not every single one of our health centers provides prenatal care, and we’ve never said otherwise,” Planned Parenthood spokesperson Mary Alice Carter told the Times. “This is obviously part of a continued campaign to try to discredit us even though investigation after investigation found no wrongdoing in any of our health centers.”
Carter added that all of Planned Parenthood’s clinics would offer services seen as aligning with what an initial prenatal visit would typically include. As for the most recent videos, Planned Parenthood has not yet issued a response; Faithwire left a voicemail seeking comment on Tuesday evening.
The latest video comes as a government debate over defunding Planned Parenthood forges on.
