Premature birth impacts thousands of families every year across America and this emotional video about a couple’s journey exhibits the emotional difficulty in giving birth to a baby before 40 weeks.
Baby Kaya was born at 24 weeks because her mother Sarah was suffering from HLLP Syndrome, a life-threatening pre-eclampsia birth complication that puts the mother and child at risk of death.

In the video, Sarah recalls the emergency c-section that she had to undergo in the hopes that Kaya and herself would stay alive. Even after Sarah, the mother survived, it was hard for her to hear that doctors were only giving her new born daughter a 40-50 precent chance of making it because she was born early and under weight.

Instead of giving up on their newborn daughter that seemed to have a mile high list of health consequences stacked against her and a long list of medical needs like laser eye surgeries and blood transfusions, the Christian family leaned into their faith to get through it.
As Sarah sits with her daughter in her lap years after the pregnancy scare, they are both happy and healthy.
Now “We couldn’t be more thankful. We couldn’t be more blessed,” Essa, Kaya’s father said moments after looking at his toddler daughter and wife.
Preemies are all too common in the United States, one out of every ten women gives birth to a premature baby and is in desperate need of added assistance from the Medical staff, NICU and family members.
The March of Dimes provides all of that and more because of their deep investment in helping every baby born have a fighting chance.
