A Milwaukee couple with a heart of gold has adopted the 2-year-old boy they’ve fostered since he was born addicted to drugs.
Katie Holliday and her husband, Eric Holliday, have always wanted to adopt a child after they struggled to have one of their own, WISN reported.

Although Jacob, 2, was always part of the family as soon as he arrived, he will now officially carry the Holliday name.

Jacob was addicted to several drugs when he was born and had to undergo the withdrawal process, Holliday said, adding that she and her husband watched in agony as the newborn struggled in the neonatal intensive care unit for three weeks.
“…It was hard to watch this little seven-pound baby go through it,” Holliday said.
Once he was healthy, the Hollidays were able to take Jacob home. They cared for him as social workers tried to reunite him with his biological parents.
“[The parents] really just wanted the best for him,” Holliday said. “But, they couldn’t take care of him…He deserved to have a good home.”
Katie Holliday said that although Jacob didn’t get the healthiest start when entering the world, being born addicted to drugs has not affected his learning abilities.
“A lot of people think because he was addicted to drugs that that is going to what he becomes, and it doesn’t,” Holliday said.
Holliday described Jacob as “happy and playful.” She described the day of his adoption party as “pure happiness.”
