A husband is receiving major accolades from across the internet after he decided to propose to his wife for a second time — a gesture he planned in an effort to bring his spouse some comfort after she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a bilateral mastectomy on February 21.
Jim Koch, 60, of Panora, Iowa, told ABC News that the heartfelt re-proposal to his wife of 26 years — which was shared on social media by the couple’s daughter — was “pretty spontaneous,” and that his wife, Lora, 54, truly deserved the special moment.
“I’ve known Lora as the most selfless person that I know and as she was going through this rough patch, I really wanted to give a sign and a reminder of love and commitment,” he said. “Throughout the whole thing, she’s had such a positive attitude. From diagnosis to surgery, I don’t think she’s had a down day.”
And one of the couple’s two daughters, Christin, told “Today” that she shared photos of the re-proposal on Twitter to show the world the depth of her “parents love for each other.”

Christin also told ABC News what her dad said as he bowed down on one knee in front of his wife.
Jim told Lora he will always love her and will be there for her in both sickness and in health. The photos, alone, show how touched Lora was by her husband’s heartfelt decision to lift her spirits.

“This is true love,” Lora told her daughter. “Even when I’m at my worst he still loves me.”
Christin said she was overjoyed to be able to witness the touching moment — one that has gone viral since she tweeted photos of her dad’s re-proposal and her mother’s candid reaction.
“I’ve always known they had a strong relationship and seeing it in front of my own eyes was really cool,” she said.
