New York Mets player Tim Tebow got quite a bit of praise from fans and naysayers on Wednesday when he got his first minor league hit during this year’s Grapefruit League game.
The former NFL players’ outstanding performance stood out in the minds of onlookers, including the sports commentators who gave Tebow a hard time for transitioning to baseball instead of sticking with football. Some media outlets like ESPN are calling the 29-year-old’s performance his “best” since he has joined the Mets team last year.

The athlete’s major improvements showcased earlier this week when the team played the Miami Marlins came after his fans lifted him up in prayer:

Even though Tebow had a decent day at the plate, his team lost the game 6-2.

After the game, Tebow spoke to the press — his first time doing so since his second Grapefruit League game when he was told by the New York Mets to no longer brief the media. But this week was an exception due to his stellar batting average of .214 and his all around awesome plays.
Tebow first stated,”When there’s a lot of action that’s also fun. You like being involved” and during this game,”The wind was blowing extremely hard to the corner, so you knew it was going to carry a little bit farther.” He also added that he’s still figuring out “a lot of stuff” and that “so much of it is still new, so it’s still a process.” But overall, he said it has been “an awesome opportunity.”
“I’m trying to make the most of it as far as a learning opportunity — learn from as many of the guys, as many of the coaches, as possible and try to absorb as much knowledge as possible,” he said.
Mets manager Terry Collins told ESPN that Tebow’s performance has gotten better since he started playing in the Florida games, explaining that “he’s made very good strides.”
