Comedian Chris Rock recently spoke out about the negative impact that his former pornography addiction had on both him and his marriage.
Rock explained during a stop on his “Total Blackout” comedy tour that smut actually helped end his 16-year marriage to ex-wife Malaak Compton, CBN News reported.
The comedian was apparently candid in his discussion, saying that porn use made it tough for him to catch social cues and to make eye contact; he joked during his set that porn also made him 15 minutes late everywhere he went, according to Inquisitr.
This reportedly all weighed heavily on his family dynamics, helping, among other issues, to drive a wedge between him and his wife. Rock reportedly sought therapy to help remedy the issue, though his marriage still dissolved in 2016.
Numerous outlets reported that Rock had discussed the “destructive effect of his pornography addiction” with the audience at some of his recent shows — a raw and candid topic one might not expect to hear at a comedy show.
Rock is hardly the first celebrity to share his struggles with smut. Actor Terry Crews revealed last year that he, too, has battled the issue, explaining just how deeply it impacted his life; he even went to rehab to combat it.
“For years, years, years my dirty little secret was that I was addicted to pornography,” Crews said in a Facebook video. “It really, really messed up my life in a lot of ways. It became a thing where I didn’t tell anybody.”
Pamela Anderson, too, has also come out vocally to oppose porn, penning an op-ed last year aimed at the negative impact of smut.
