Comedian John Crist is at it again, releasing a comical, new video titled, “Swag Seminary” — a short clip that pokes fun at how some contemporary pastors and churches might use various ploys to keep from seeming out of touch with the current culture.
“Is your pastor old and outdated? Send him to Swag Seminary!” a video description reads. “John Crist and Aaron Chewning are back, helping pastors become more relevant.”
The video opens with an interview with “Doug,” a pastor who has tried everything possible to get his sermons to connect with parishioners, but to no avail.
“I’ve tried everything — books, prayer, books on prayer, fasting,” Doug said. “Nothing’s really working.”
In the video, Crist and Chewning, who play church fixers of sorts, proclaim that “Swag Seminary” is a program that helps preachers “become more relevant” and “build their platform a little.”
They then move on to critique Doug for his “boot-cut khakis,” his hair cut and his decision to title his sermons with “boring” topics (i.e. “The Parables of Jesus”). Instead, they told him to play off of culturally popular TV shows and entertainment.

“I don’t understand,” a confused Doug at one point proclaimed. “Why you would imitate a culture that we’re supposed to be against?”
His qualms were met with awkward silence, before Crist and Chewning changed the subject and gave Doug a makeover — part of their quest to make him cooler.
