Greg Laurie, senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside and Irvine, California, and the founder of Harvest America, believes that the U.S. is desperately in need of a spiritual revival.
“We have gotten away from those moral absolutes because we have gotten away from God’s Word and we have gotten away from God Himself,” Laurie told the Christian Post in a recent interview. “We have a nation in need, a nation in crisis, a nation where the family is breaking down, a nation where we have riots in our streets and racial unrest.
The answer to these problems, he said, is another “spiritual awakening,” explaining that there have been four such awakenings in U.S. history, with the last one unfolding in the 1960s and 197os during the so-called “Jesus Movement.”
Laurie believes the U.S. is “overdue” for another such spiritual revolution and said that he’s praying one will soon unfold.
While he told the Christian Post that he can’t definitively answer the question of what will happen to America if a spiritual awakening doesn’t come, he speculated that Europe might offer a predictive lens into what such a scenario could look like.
Europe, he said, is “further down the road” than the U.S. is, though it’s a road that he doesn’t want the country to travel.
“Europe has become so concerned with political correctness and has moved to what is often described as a ‘post-Christian’ state, where church attendance is at an all-time low,” he said. “I think if the people of the U.K. and Europe in general would turn to God, they would find strength and truth that would help them in the battle against terrorism and their cultures in general.”
In the end, Laurie is hopeful that the U.S. will stick close to the “God of the Bible,” saying that doing so will keep the nation strong.
“The more we stray from that faith, the weaker that we’ll become,” he said. “The Bible says, ‘Righteousness exalts a nation and sin is a reproach to the people.'”

As Faithwire previously reported, Laurie has certainly been doing his own part to try and spark a spiritual awakening, hosting revival events around America that are aimed at helping people understand and embrace the gospel.
In addition to the in-person numbers, 42,305 people watched the event online, with 494 of them registering that they, too, accepted Christ. You can read more about Harvest America here.
