Actor Matthew McConaughey has revealed his favorite verse in the Bible: Matthew 6:22.
It’s a scripture that reads, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” For context’s sake, verse 23 continues, “But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”

McConaughey, 47, told “Good Morning America” on Monday that this verse inspired him and his wife, Camila Alves, to name their now 9-year-old son “Levi.”
“Levi’s another name for Matthew in the Bible,” the actor said. “So, we had talked about possibly Matthew, Jr. if he was a boy. And my favorite book in the Bible is Matthew 6:22.”
But it wasn’t just the name that inspired McConaughey and his wife to choose the name Levi. When the new parents received the baby’s birth card from the doctor an hour after his birth, they realized their child was born at 6:22 p.m.
That detail teamed with the fact that McConaughey loves Matthew 6:22 led the couple to choose Levi as the name.
“We find out he’s a boy when he’s born. You’re not thinking about the name, right?” the actor said. “An hour later, the doctor comes up and he hands you that card to fill out: ‘Blank was born at 6:22 p.m.’ So we went, ‘It’s Levi.'”
