American evangelist Andrew Wommack believes that America has fallen into disarray due to the fact that too many Christians — and particularly pastors — have “been silent” and afraid to speak truth.
“This is the reason our nation has got into the mess that it’s in is because we’ve been silent,” Wommack told Lucas Miles on a recent episode of “The Lucas Miles Show.” “And we’ve been afraid to speak the truth.”
The preacher made his comments while discussing President Donald Trump’s oft-times candid — and controversial — nature. Wommack said Trump isn’t polished and has plenty of attributes that can be criticized, but he also shared a theory on why he believes God raised Trump up.
“He is breaking the fear of man,” he said in an interview recorded before the latest Charlottesville controversy. “This guy is fearless and people are saying things about him and he doesn’t care.”
In making this point, Wommack pointed to the Johnson Amendment, an IRS provision that bans non-profits, including churches, from endorsing political candidates. While he said the law was never harshly applied by the IRS, the “fear silenced a lot of people.” Trump, though, has spoken out against the provision.
“It’s a shame that God had to use a person like Donald Trump to get the body of Christ to where they’re standing up,” he said.
