They’re calling it a “total miracle.”
A 6-year-old young man in Louisiana is being haled as a hero after taking extraordinary measures to save the life of not only his little brother, but his twin 2-year-old cousins Kaden and Isaac Kelley as well. The twins had managed to sneak away in just a few minutes time and fall into the pool, leaving them helplessly face down, floating in the water.
The day began at church, with a service that included the Jeannie Kelley and her family dedicating the twins to God. Shortly after that, friends and family gathered to celebrate the occasion. After eating, they headed to the pool to swim and cool off on a warm summer day. Everything went just fine, and eventually everyone began to head home for the day.
As the last of the visitors headed out, the twins mother Jeannie Kelley spent a few extra moments talking to her sister, Courtney Lee. The twins and Courtney’s 6-year-old son Branson were watching cartoons on Netflix as the adults began packing up to head out. The pool area had inadvertently been left unlocked, and at some point during the cartoon watching and the extended goodbye, like most 2-year-old boys the twins took advantage of the opportunity and went wandering.
Reflecting on the events that unfolded, they estimate it only took about 3 minutes for the kids to go from calmly watching Netflix to face down in the pool. Here’s how it went, according to The New Star:
“My nephew happened to be walking outside because his little brother, who is the same age as my boys, was wandering outside too,” Jeanie said. “He saw his brother and grabbed him, and that is when he saw my babies. And he ran outside and grabbed them and pulled them up out of the pool and started yelling for us.”
Courtney said her youngest son had also started on a path toward the pool while Branson was pushing him in a toy car. Attempting to keep his little brother safe led to Branson finding the twins.
“He said he just dove in,” Courtney said. “All he knew is he had to try to save them … It was a miraculous thing to know that at six-years-old he didn’t just scream and run away. He didn’t just ignore it or stand there in shock. He just immediately acted and allowed God to do the rest.”
What a blessing this young man is, to have the courage to act when many adults wouldn’t even know what to do. He didn’t panic, just went to work, and it’s a good thing, too. Jeannie said when they rushed up to their babies “they were completely gone, there was no life left in them. They were blue. They were limp. There was no heartbeat. There was nothing.”
The twins dad, Steven, found his children and immediately began administering CPR. The remaining family and friends gathered around and prayed after they had called 911. In 30 seconds that seemed like an eternity, Kaden suddenly came to.
The twins were both airlifted to a nearby hospital, and made full recoveries. “The next morning, they were just like nothing had ever happened,” the relieved mom said. The doctors said this is something they don’t see happen often, if at all.
Jeannie reflected on the prophetic sermon that was preached that morning. According to The New Star:
“My preacher preached a message Sunday morning right after he dedicated them,” Jeannie said. “And it was called ‘Do it again.’ He talked about how the Lord performed miracles, and he still performs miracles. If he did it once, he can do it again.
“He talked about God making provisions in your life and lining everything up for your good in any circumstance. It was so amazing how everything came together, because if one thing had changed — other than the door being locked like it should have — if anything had changed, who knows what the outcome would have been. Everything just lined up perfect. Everyone just had their place whether they were praying or alerting us. It was amazing.”
Praise God these babies were spared and continued prayers for their recovery!
