The tragic stories from Hurricane Harvey continue to emerge from the flood waters. In a report out today, authorities announced the discovery of a mother dead in the water with her young child clinging to her body.

A mother in Beaumont, Texas accidentally drove her car into high water. After realizing they couldn’t get out of it, she got out of the car with her daughter before being swept along with the current. Thankfully, she was able to hold onto the child, but was unable to keep herself alive.

Police officers and rescue divers discovered the mother’s body floating with her daughter holding on. They could not revive the mother, but were able to treat the child, who had developed hypothermia. She is reportedly set to be released from the hospital, according to AP.
The body count from Harvey hovers around a dozen currently but may rise significantly once waters secede and everyone is accounted for. Continual prayers are most certainly necessary.
