UPDATE: At least 50 are now reported dead and 200 injured. The shooter has been identified as Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old male from Mequite, Nevada. Latest death toll makes this the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, according to the New York Daily News.

A horrific situation unfolded in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday night after a gunman open-fired at a country music festival, killing at least 50 people and injuring more than 200 others.
The violent incident unfolded outside of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip during the Route 91 Harvest Festival. According to CNN, witnesses said that shots were fired from a high-up location at the hotel.

Authorities believe that there is one suspect who has been killed; while police do not believe there are any shooters involved, a woman named Marilou Danley is being sought.
Danley is described by police as a “companion of the suspect.” She is reportedly the shooter’s roommate, according to CBS News.

Witnesses described hearing what sounded like firecrackers during country music star Jason Aldean’s performance.
Aldean reportedly stopped his performance after the loud banging sounds shocked the audience, as people could be heard yelling to fellow concert goers get down, Fox News reported.

Police believe that the shooter waged the attack from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Some said that it sounded as though hundreds of shots were fired, with one witness telling Fox that the shots seemed to come from a machine gun.
“It sounded like a machine gun,” one individual said. “It sounded like more than one machine gun.”

Mike Conk, one of the concert attendees, described a horrific scene in which his friend was shot three times and another person died in his arms.

“Kinda sounded like some fireworks going off. I think there was the first kinda volley, and then all of the sudden second volley. My buddy’s like ‘I just got hit, ya know.’ He got hit three times,” Conk told ABC News. “Then people started diving for the ground.
He added, “And it just continued. It was pretty much chaotic. Lots of people got hit.”
Conk and his injured friend then hid under the stage and, though they were able to get help, he said, “One guy ended up dying in my arms because he was bleeding.”

Aldean later took to Instagram to express his horror over what unfolded.
“Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe,” he wrote. “My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night.”
