Sonny Melton lost his life on Sunday while protecting his wife after a madman attacked him and fellow attendees of a country music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Melton’s wife, heather, told USA Today that her 29-year-old husband jumped into gear and saved her life after the assault started. The couple, from Big Sandy, Tennessee, married in 2016, USA Today reported.
Sonny Melton was a nurse and Heather Melton is an orthopaedic surgeon at Henry County Medical Center in Paris, Tennessee.
“He saved my life,” Heather told USA Today. “He grabbed me from behind and started running when I felt him get shot in the back.”
But Heather said she wasn’t ready to go into deep detail about what unfolded at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, telling WZTV-TV that she’s in total despair and disbelief.
“At this point, I’m in complete disbelief and despair. I don’t know what to say,” she said. “Sonny was the most kind-hearted, loving man I have ever met. He saved my life and lost his.”
In the end, despite not wanting to delve into all of the details, the loving wife said that she wanted others to know about the kind of man her husband was.
“I want everyone to know what a kind hearted loving man he was but at this point I can barely breathe,” she said.
As Faithwire previously reported, the violent incident unfolded outside of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip during the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Read more here.
