What’s the biggest threat to Christianity? According to some theologians, it appears to come from inside Christendom itself.

Speaking during a Tuesday night panel discussion about the Reformation that was hosted by Ligonier Ministries, at least one theologian cited the Christian church “in this century” as the faith’s biggest impediment.
“That’s a greater threat than Islam. Christendom. A far greater threat to Christianity than Islam is,” Sinclair Ferguson, a teaching fellow with Ligonier Ministries and a professor at Reformed Theological Seminary, said. “Islam can never destroy the gospel, but Christendom can easily destroy the gospel and is destroying the gospel.”
And he wasn’t done there, according to The Christian Post.
“The Church is the greatest threat to real Christianity in the world,” he said. “God help us.”
An similar response came from Stephen J. Nichols, president of Reformation Bible College and a staffer with Ligonier Ministries, who said that the church as an institution is posing quite a conundrum.
“Especially with the Church in America, we have far too casual a view of God and that might be right at the center of some of our theological malaise,” Nichols said.
