“The Voice” contestant Brooke Simpson brought the studio audience to cheers during Monday night’s show when she beautifully belted out a stunning rendition of the popular hymn “Amazing Grace.”
Her version of the song was so captivating, in fact, that it immediately shot to the number 2 spot on iTunes, Charisma News reported.
The audience can be heard going wild both during and after the performance. Watch Simpson and the Campus Choir at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, sing the hymn below:
Perhaps most interesting is the fact that Simpson’s coach is Miley Cyrus, the once squeaky-clean child star who later transformed into an ever-edgy musician — but who clearly still recognizes the inherent beauty in songs like “Amazing Grace.”
Cyrus, who made the decision to have Simpson sing the hymn and later tweeted about the performance, encouraging her fans to buy the song on iTunes.

In the end, Simpson’s rendition was truly amazing, with The News & Observer writing that it “triggered chill bumps” all over America. But the song also held special meaning for the singer, as her parents are evangelists.
“Songs like this are the reason why I fell in love with music. My mom and dad are full time evangelists,” she said. “Growing up every weekend, we would travel from church to church and witness the power of music. Songs like ‘Amazing Grace’ let me know that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”
