At least five people were shot and one person reportedly died at a Kentucky high school on Tuesday, with Gov. Matt Bevin calling the event “tragic” and encouraging people not to spread “hearsay.”

The incident unfolded at Marshall County High School in Benton, Kentucky, with reports indicating that the suspect has been apprehended by authorities.
Seven people were reportedly taken to the hospital after the shooting, and a motive for the incident is currently unknown. The FBI is assisting with the investigation, CNN reported.
“Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS…Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded…Much yet unknown,” Bevin tweeted. “Please do not speculate or spread hearsay…Let’s let the first responders do their job and be grateful that they are there to do it for us.”

While details are still few and far between as the investigation forges on, Savana Smothers, an assistant girls’ soccer coach at the high school, told The Associated Press via Facebook that she’s shocked by what unfolded.
“You just never think this will happen in a small town like ours,” she said.
