Quaid, who plays character Arthur Millard — real-life father of Mercy Me lead singer Bart Millard — revealed in a video clip that his Christian roots run deep.
“I grew up in the Baptist church, went to Sunday school and then got baptized when I was 9,” he said, going on to explain that he eventually went on to travel the world and become a seeker. “I read the Bible cover to cover.”
In the end, he said he embarked on a journey to discover God, and eventually came to a conclusion.
“For me, it’s Jesus … there really is redemption in that,” he said. “That was the inspiration.”

Quaid was apparently so moved by his role in “I Can Only Imagine” that he completed a song he started writing for his mother 25 years ago titled, “On My Way to Heaven.”
