Chances are if you are a Christian then you have probably been told by someone at least once in your life that Christianity is too restricting.
I’ve been told this or asked how I can partake in a religion that has so many rules in regulations.
Ironically so, if you are a Christian then you know Christianity, in fact, is the exact opposite.
Throughout the entirety of the Bible, one of the main themes is freedom. The basis for our salvation through Christ is freedom. The grace of God is freedom. The love of Christ is freedom. The guidance of the Holy Spirit brings freedom.
When man was originally created, God gave us ultimate freedom. He didn’t have a list of rules, nor did He have instructions on how to live a “free” life, because we were free. He only gave one rule, to not eat fruit from the tree of good and evil. When Eve ate the fruit from that tree, man lost the ability to have ultimate freedom.
But God still allowed man to have “free will” to make decisions as they please, hoping that they would choose Him.
You see, the foundation of the Bible is freedom. As we read through it, we watch as God free’s the people of Israel time and time again. We watch as God sends His only son as a living sacrifice to signify the freedom that all of mankind would have the opportunity to receive.
When Jesus died on the cross we were given freedom from pain, suffering, bondage, weakness, and ultimately death.
This Fourth of July let’s remember the men who fought to give us freedom as a nation but also remember the one who gives us the ultimate, endless, and eternal freedom.
In remembering the freedom that we receive from God, here are 9 Bible Verses on Freedom:
Psalm 118:5
Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.
John 8:36
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Exodus 3:9-10
Now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them. Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.
Galatians 5:1
It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
Romans 8:2
Now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them. Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.
Acts 10:43
To Him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name.
Romans 6:6-7
We know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.
Romans 8:15
“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’”
Happy Fourth of July!
