Some American Airlines flights were delayed Tuesday morning after a cleaning crew found a dead fetus in the bathroom toilet of a commercial plane at LaGuardia Airport in New York.
The ghastly discovery was made around 7:30 a.m. aboard an out-of-service Airbus A321 airliner in one of the terminal’s hangars, the New York Post reported. The flight, which came from Charlotte, North Carolina, landed at LaGuardia Monday night.

At this point, it’s uncertain if the baby was unborn or if it had already been born. A preliminary investigation determined the body to be between three and six months old.
“As we continue to learn more about this tragic and sensitive situation, we are actively cooperating with law enforcement in its investigation,” a statement from American Airlines read.
