Debbie Davis Pollino lost her son in a car accident and she shares the story of locating the recipient of Nick’s heart.
During the five minute piece, mama Pollino recalls the last conversation she had with her son, which was a simple and loving reminder of closing the garage door.
Now, the receiver of this wonderful gift is Brian, who has had several heart attacks and complications before being put on the heart transplant list and participating in a waiting game.
Thankfully, one came and that was Nick’s.
This past spring, two years after Brian received the heart, he and his family sat down and wrote a letter expressing their gratitude and asked to meet the mother who lost her own child.
Earlier this month, she finally decided to go forward with the meeting. “The emotions are going to be crazy. I’m trying to stay composed, but you know (when) you lose your only child and your new normal is nothing like ‘normal.'”
“The fact that I am going to be able to put my hand on his heart. The heart that was taken out of my son and put in this man, who is healthy and living and enjoying his family and that just means the world to me,” she added.
It does to us too!
