A 4-year-old girl who was kidnapped from her Florida home has been reunited with her family after a quick-thinking nurse in Tennessee recognized her from the amber alert that was issued.
Kaytlin Brown, who has only been working at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis for a few months, is being hailed a hero after seeing Rebecca Lewis with the middle-aged man who kidnapped her, West Hogs, during her lunch break, KXXV reported.
Brown went up to the pair and said “Hi” so she could get a closer look, she explained. Rebecca returned the greeting but didn’t say anything else.
“You could tell she was being led,” Brown noted, describing the girl as “very quiet.”
Rebecca was wearing the exact same outfit as in the amber alert picture, which Brown had just seen while scrolling through her phone during her break. She promptly contacted security, who kept an eye on the girl and Hogs until police arrived.
Police arrested Hogs into custody and returned Rebecca to her grandparents in Lakeland. It is unclear what the pair was doing in the hospital.
“I’m just so glad that everyone acted so fast the way they did and so well together,” Brown said. “No one panicked. No one freaked out.”
