A California mom is borrowing from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s slogan in an effort to try and send a powerful message about respect, civility and kindness.
Amanda Blanc of Sacramento recently decided to slightly tweak Trump’s “Make America Great Again” mantra by switching out one word — “great” — and replacing it with “kind.”
Thus, her message is simple: Let’s “make America kind again.”
Considering just how fierce the 2016 presidential campaign has been, it’s likely a welcome message to many who have become exhausted or turned-off by the rhetoric surrounding and coming from the major party candidates.
Blanc’s effort to spread this positive message reportedly started a few weeks ago after she made a sign with the tagline for a friend; after another friend requested the same yard placard, she decided to print even more of them.
Now, Blanc has reportedly produced more than 300 just like it, listing both a yard sign and a tote-bag on her Etsy page that bear the same message.
“A couple of weeks ago, a friend asked Amanda Blanc to make a sign so she did! With a few clicks of her mouse, she created a sign and a movement of kindness,” read a recent Facebook post published by a woman named Sarah Thompson. “She has printed 300 signs so far!”
Thompson, who is friends with Blanc, said she’s proud to see her Blanc’s message resonating and making waves across the country.
As for Blanc’s motivation for creating the signage, she told KXTV-TV she doesn’t care what people believe and is simply trying to encourage people to treat one another well.
“It exemplifies respect,” Blanc said of the sign. “It doesn’t matter what you believe in, and it doesn’t matter what I believe in. We can still all be friends.”
A description of the Etsy yard sign product reads, “Help us spread kindness by posting these signs in your yard,” with the tote-bag description also encouraging people to spread the love.
