The search for a missing girl abducted from an evening church service has ended tragically, with what authorities believe to be her remains being found in a well on a private property about 4 miles from where she was last seen alive.
The nation was captivated by the case, and the family received an outpouring of support including prayers and financial donations.
There have been no arrests in the case so far, but the girl’s uncle remains in custody. According to KHOU.com:
A family member who lived at the house was questioned in Kayla’s disappearance and death, and is currently in the Smith County Jail on a Federal Immigration Customs detainer. According to Sheriff John Smith, additional charges are anticipated.
Kayla Gomez-Orozco was at church with her parents, waiting in the lobby as they chatted with friends after the service had concluded.

An Amber alert has been issued to locate a 10-year-old named Kayla Gomez, who went missing at First Assembly of God Church in Texas on Tuesday night.
The alert was issued on Nov. 1 for the missing girl, who disappeared around 7:30 pm at the house of God.
The FBI stated that Gomez was last seen wearing a black “Racquet & Jog” shirt with a peach skirt.
The young girl stands at 4 ft tall in stature and is of white/Hispanic race with black hair.

According to reports, the young girl is considered to be in ‘grave danger’ and there is a $13,000 reward for anyone that provides information about the elementary aged child.

In response to the missing child report, the local Cherokee County Sheriff, James Campbell issued a statement that highlighted the demeanor of the family. Saying, “The family seems to be a very good, hard-working, religious family with no problems.”
