A family shared a special moment on Facebook this week when they surprised grandma, aka Mawmaw, with what looked like an ordinary rocking bench.
It became clear this was much more than just a simple bench, because she immediately broke down into tears when she saw the gift. As one of her family members wrote, she and her husband (who passed away in 2014) used to call it a ‘prayer swing’ for years.
They’d pray together, with the grandkids and other family members. They must’ve prayed a lot because eventually they had to replace the old swing – and now the replacement swing was in disrepair.
That led to this moment, which was described by family like this:
“Since I was a little girl, my Mawmaw has always had a prayer swing in her backyard. That’s where I learned to pray, as did my little cousins. Through the years, all of the grandkids have sat in that swing with her and our Pawpaw and prayed. It has been replaced since my childhood and probably a few times over and the replacement was falling apart. My Pawpaw passed away in 2014 and she sure misses sitting in that swing with him. They would sit together in the evenings, sometimes in silence, just enjoying being next to one another. It was their together time. This was a gift we all (aunts, uncles, cousins) got for Mawmaw this year. There is a plaque on the front that says “Prayer Swing- In Loving Memory of David” on it. Her reaction says it all.”
