Grammy-nominated gospel singer James Fortune says he’s “sore, but alive” after a drunk driver allegedly rear-ended his car, expressing his gratitude to God for saving him from serious injuries.
“Thank you all so much for all the prayers,” Fortune said in a recent Instagram video. “I’m home. I’m still sore, but alive.”
The singer and songwriter went on to explain what happened, saying he was recently at a red light when he was in for the shock of a lifetime.
“At a red light, (I was) hit by a drink driver who was actually running from someone else that she had hit,” he explained, noting that she slammed into the back of his vehicle — and he didn’t see it coming.
The impact of the crash caused Fortune to then hit another car he was behind. The entire scenario could have ended quite badly for everyone involved, but the singer is fortunately OK after the ordeal.
“My neck could have easily been broken and had so much damage,” he said, going on to thank his supporters for their prayers and kind words.
“God is good, he’s faithful,” Fortune said. “God’s going to do something great in 2017.”

A Jan. 5 Facebook post on Fortune’s page previously implored fans to pray for him, saying the singer was on his way to church when he was involved in the four-car accident.
“God spared his life and he is responsive,” the post read. “Pray for a speedy recovery.”
