A girl wrote a touching letter to the thief who looted her family’s home in Florida.
Wendy Chay Son, 8, and her parents moved into a new house in Lake Worth last month and the home was burglarized just days later. The family’s clothing, jewelry and a tablet were stolen.
Wendy’s mother, Alberthina Son, said she was taking her daughter to school and her husband was at work at the time of the burglary.
“When I come back, I saw the door open and I was scared,” Alberthina Son told local news reporters.
The family called police. But Wendy decided to pen a letter to the robber.
“This is for the robbers,” Wendy’s letter reads in part. “Please do not steal in this house. There are good kids and people in this house. We are people who do not steal. We are sad that you have been stealing in this house.”
“My dad is working so hard and you are not. You are just stealing stuff. Tell me why you are stealing and I will help you be a good person,” the letter continues. “I hope you will have a better life.”
Wendy taped the hand-scribbled note to the window next to the front door of her home, so the thief would see her message if they ever returned. She said she hoped her words would change the person’s mind about stealing.
“I wrote that letter so they could change and don’t steal in anybody’s house,” Wendy told WPBF-TV.
She closed it out by saying, “I hope you will change and be good. God will forgive you.”
There is a GoFundme page set up to help the family replace items stolen from their home. It’s already received $3150 of their $3500 goal.
