A Florida sheriff received an unexpected gesture after arresting a teen for underage drinking: a thank you letter from the girl’s mother.
The mother wrote the letter because “cops are getting a bad rap” these days, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, which posted the contents of the letter on Facebook.
The girl was arrested while holding a can of beer on a beach on the panhandle of the Sunshine State, according to the sheriff’s office. Her mother called it a “stupid move” that she had warned her about before she left for spring break.
“Yesterday, my daughter was one of the thousands of spoiled spring breakers ‘living it up’ on the beach,” she wrote, adding that the arrest “scared the hell out of her.”
The mother wrote that “every officer” she spoke to during the ordeal was “nice” and treated her daughter with respect. They also assured her that her daughter would make it home safely.
“For a mom hundreds of miles away, that was very reassuring,” she wrote to the sheriff’s office. “I know you all have to deal with this on a daily basis, which must be completely annoying and I’m very sorry my daughter added to your workload yesterday.”
The mother ended the letter by thanking the officers for “saving” her from getting more grey hairs.
