In an intimate ceremony at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, the president presented Army Sgt. 1st Class Alvaro Barrientos with a Purple Heart, the Associated Press reported.
Sgt. Barrientos was wounded in Afghanistan on March 17, losing his right leg.
During the ceremony, President Trump told attendees that when he heard of the sergeant’s sacrifice and courage, he wanted to personally present the special honor.
From the AP:
Trump kissed Barrientos’ wife before pinning the medal on the sergeant’s left shirt collar, grasping Barrientos by the shoulders and then shaking his hand.
Gab editor David Kirkland tweeted a photo of the ceremony, describing the event as “nothing flashy,” but “full of integrity.”
