A loving wife attempted to shield her husband from gunshots over the weekend when the couple became victims of a home invasion.
Danville, Virginia, resident Haywood Carter died after he was shot Saturday night. His wife was also shot and was taken to the hospital, WSET-TV reported.

Carter’s daughter, Katrina Carter Chandler, described her father as a family man who was involved in the community.
“[He] loved Danville, they were the ones that was very involved in the community,” Chandler told WSET. “My dad was a loving, loving person.”

Chandler believes her father was targeted because he often carried a lot of cash in his pocket.
“They came in with dark clothes and masks on and hoodies,” she shared. “I truly believe someone was watching my dad.”
Carter’s wife was grazed in the neck when she tried to shield him from the bullets.
“He loved his wife, he loved his kids, and grandkids; to take somebody who was innocent and worked in the community is senseless,” Chandler said.
