Carl and Hazel Webb were heading home after stopping by a barbecue festival in the Memphis area last week, and they had no idea their 14-mile ride home was going to make national headlines.

Unbeknownst to them, a man who had way too much to drink decided to curl up and fall asleep on the trunk of their car. It was dark outside, so they just hopped in and took off for home. They had absolutely no idea there was a man on the trunk of their car, sound asleep.
The trunk on their Ford Taurus is only about 14 inches wide. There is a slight lip on the end, but that shouldn’t have been enough to keep the man safely on the trunk. The ride, which was retraced by local TV news station, featured highways and several sweeping turns.
The driver of the car, Carl Webb, says he hopes the man rethinks the path he’s on in life and turns it around. Speaking to Fox 13 Memphis, he said:
“I hope he takes a good look at where he put himself and the hazard that he had open up to himself. It would’ve been death.”
Webb praised the officer who noticed the man on the trunk, saying he did an “outstanding” job defusing the situation. The inebriated man, when finally woken up, became agitated and wandered out into traffic.
This man should be dead, by all accounts. “I have no explanation other than that little lip right there saved his life,” Webb added.
God has clearly spared this man’s life, prayers he sees the light and turns things around.
