First Lady Melania Trump is questioning comedian Kathy Griffin’s sanity, officially weighing in on the controversy surrounding a disturbing photo of Griffin holding a faux severed head that resembles President Donald Trump.
“As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing,” Trump said in a statement.
The first lady went on to cite atrocities around the globe in her condemnation of Griffin’s actions, while also questioning the comedian’s mental health.
“When you consider some of the atrocities happening in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it,” Trump continued.
Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!

The reaction came after the president issued a statement of his own via Twitter on Wednesday morning, decrying the bizarre photo and stating that Griffin should be “ashamed of herself.”
“Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself,” Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning. “My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”
TMZ is reporting that Barron Trump first saw the image on TV and assumed that it was his father. A source told the outlet that the little boy panicked and called for his mother.
Griffin, who apologized after at first defending the photo as her attempt to simply mock Trump, has received rebukes from individuals on both sides of the political aisle.
