4. Deadly Chaos Continues in the Philippines
At least 36 people are dead Friday morning after a gunman set fire to a Philippines resort in Manila. According to multiple reports, the armed assailant opened fire in the resort’s casino before setting poker tables ablaze. According to police, the gunman died after setting himself on fire.
Despite the recent deadly streak of political turmoil in the Philippines, authorities so far are calling the incident a potential robbery and not terrorism.
5. Police Officer Cries Out to Jesus in Newly Released Footage From Pulse Attack
On Thursday, the Orlando Sentinel released never-before-seen footage of the deadly standoff that occurred during the June 12, 2016 Pulse nightclub attack. The video, recorded on police body cameras, captures the raw moment when Belle Isle Police Officer Brandon Cornwell said a prayer for protection. “Lord Jesus, watch over me,” Cornwell prayed aloud before entering the bathroom where terrorist Omar Mateen was holding survivors hostage.
