A mother in Clay County, Florida, recently gave birth to a healthy baby girl who weighed a whopping 13 pounds, 5 ounces.
Carleigh Brooke Corbitt was the biggest baby Dr. Eric Edelenbos had ever delivered, he told WJAX-TV.

As her due date approached, Carleigh’s mother, Christine Corbitt, realized just how big her daughter was getting.
“Towards the end of my pregnancy, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. She’s just so huge,'” Corbitt said.

During the C-section delivery, Carleigh was so big that Edelenbos grew concerned that the birth was taking longer than normal.
“When the baby was coming out, I was like, ‘Is this baby ever going to end?’” he said. “Everybody in the room kind of just stopped during the delivery and was like, ‘Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh.’”

This week, Carleigh went in for her three-week checkup, where mom discovered she’d gained another 5 ounces. The infant suffers from an early onset of gestational diabetes and had to stay in the NICU for some time after she was born so nurses could monitor her blood sugar.
Carleigh has since received the all-clear and is otherwise healthy and happy.

Carleigh was significantly bigger at birth than Corbitt’s older children, the mother said.
“I’ve had nine and 10-pound babies and I figured maybe she’d be 10 pounds,” she said. “But she was a surprise.”
Dr. Edelenbos said that in recent years babies have had higher birth rates due to an increase in gestational diabetes among mothers.
Corbitt said her biggest baby may also be her last.
“I’m done. I’m done. No more babies for me,” she said, smiling.
