Tragedy struck Christian musician Nathan Johnson after his wife had a seemingly smooth childbirth before suffering complications just hours later. Within a couple hours, she had passed away.
A friend created a Gofundme page and posted a heartfelt plea. The response in the past 24 hours has been simply incredible. Josh Wilson described this loving husband and father and then asked friends, family and strangers to help make sure he didn’t have to worry about anything but being a dad for the next few months. Within hours, a quarter million dollars were raised.
“How can you help? You can give time, meals, and money. Let’s give so much more than we think we can. Believe me, Nate needs it more than us right now,” Wilson said in his post.
“Let’s raise enough money for Nathan to get off the road for at least 6 months. Let’s cover his bills and meals so he doesn’t have to think about any of that. Let’s sleep over at his house and feed sweet Eilee so Nate can rest. Please consider giving money, meals, prayer, or your own sleep so we can show Nate and Eilee how much we love them.”
To date, more than $330,000 has been raised and the goal has been lifted to $400,000.
For someone who does a wonderful job lifting millions of strangers up with his music, it is only fitting that those same millions of strangers have a chance to pay it back. Clearly, no amount of money will ever replace his beautiful, beloved wife. But at least he can focus on his new daughter without having to tour around the country and worry about paying bills.
As Faithwire previously reported, Johnson’s friend and fellow musician JJ Heller took to Facebook on Wednesday to share the heartbreaking news that Nathan, a musician she toured with last year, lost his wife, Megan, just hours after she gave birth to their first child. She asked her fans to consider donating to help defray costs for Nathan and his new daughter, Eilee Kate.
“This is my friend Nathan. He plays electric guitar and I toured with him all year last year with Josh Wilson and Jason Gray,” the post, which includes a touching photo of the new family, begins. “Yesterday his wife Megan gave birth to their first baby, sweet Eilee Kate. A few hours later Megan went home to be with Jesus.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up with the hope that Nathan will be able to stay home with his daughter for at least the next six months. The page was posted on Wednesday and has already raised nearly $110,000. Because of the outpouring of support, the goal has been raised to $150,000.
The campaign, which was started by Nathan’s bandmate Josh Wilson, explains that after a seemingly uncomplicated delivery, Megan “started having trouble” about six hours later. She passed away around 11am on Tuesday. The page goes on to say:
Needless to say, Nathan is devastated. There are no words for this, so I won’t really say much more. Here is what I know. Nathan is a wonderful man and an amazing father. He loves his daughter dearly.
