President Trump and CNN have been engaging in a bit of a back and forth side-show media war in recent weeks, but what happened over the weekend was such a good moment it was hard to watch it and not smile.
After returning from Germany on Saturday, President Trump was leaving Andrews Air Force Base to climb on to Marine One. But it was extremely windy on the tarmac, and one of the Marines lost their hat. In a humbling maneuver, Trump retrieved the hat and put it back in place.
Almost immediately, however, the wind kicked up and blew the hat off again. Once again, Trump went to retrieve the hat. He gave a friendly pat to the Marine and boarded the helicopter.
The Marine had been in salute, and was unable to move.
President Obama had taken some flak during his presidency for requesting a Marine to hold an umbrella over his head during a speech, and also for the time he forgot to salute while boarding.
Regardless of how you feel about President Trump, this was a nice display of humility.
