Always be on alert, because you never know when a life or death moment will suddenly arrive. For Daniel Braxton and his 18-year-old daughter, Talitha, that moment came last week as they drove through their UK town.
As they headed by a bus stop, Talitha suddenly became hysterical. “My daughter started screaming saying she could see a dead baby in the bus stop,” he told local media outlets. The baby, she said, was laying on the ground, and appeared to be covered in blood.
Now, this wasn’t a busy bus stop in the center of town. As you can see from the pictures, it’s a little far removed from foot traffic. So it would take an alert driver to notice the surroundings if this baby were to be saved.
At first, dad didn’t exactly believe his daughter. His first reaction was to incredulously say “don’t be stupid” but she persisted and he decided he better turn around and take a look. When he pulled up to the bus stop, he was astonished. There was what looked like a dead baby or a doll, partially wrapped up with the umbilical cord still attached. Stunned, Braxton immediately picked up the baby – whom he described as “lifeless” looking, and started rubbing her chest.
Then, suddenly, she took a “huge gasp of air” and opened up her eyes. This was the last thing Braxton expected to happen on his drive – being face to face with a newborn infant whose life he just saved.
“They were the most beautiful big brown eyes I have ever seen” he explained to the Daily Post.
Braxton explained to media that if his daughter hadn’t noticed the baby, the outcome could’ve been very different.
He said: “I saw a silhouette (of a woman ) out of the corner of my eye when I spun my car around. But I told the police the person I saw certainly did not look as though she had had a baby.”
Daniel, who is unemployed, added: “It’s lucky we got there when we did, we were told another few minutes and she could have died.”
Police are searching for the mother of the baby, who was found in Towyn, shortly after 7am today.
Officers cordoned off the busy A548 in the townand a helicopter took to the skies in a bid to find the mother.
The mother has yet to be identified, but authorities are looking for her. More from the Mirror:
They say they are concerned about the woman’s health and have appealed for her to contact them.
Helen Douglas, from North Wales Police, said; “At about 07:15 hours this morning a newborn baby girl was found in a bus shelter by the Magpie and Stump public house in Towyn, Conwy.
“We want mum to know that she is currently being cared for and treated in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.”
She added: “We want to ensure that the mother is provided with the medical support she needs.”
An NSPCC spokesman said: “It’s really important that the baby girl’s mum gets in contact with the police, so she can receive any help and support needed.”
Prayers for this little one, her mother, and praise God for this alert teenager whose good eyes and persistence likely saved a life.
