A Texas man is the epitome of grit, devotion and perseverance after dropping more than 200 pounds in an effort to recognize his dream of joining the U.S. Army.
And William Guinn Jr.’s incredible quest became a reality earlier this month when he was finally sworn into the military, KTAB-TV reported.
The journey began when Guinn, who weighed around 460 pounds when he started his journey in February 2016, recalled looking in the mirror and deciding he was tired of being overweight.
So, the married father of four went to a nearby gym, worked with a nutritionist and started his stunning transformation.
“When I first started losing weight I was 456 pounds in 14 months without surgery or anything else,” Guinn wrote in a Facebook post published earlier this year. “Just dieting, eating right, and gym 6 days a week and very active.”
Now, he weighs 230 pounds and he’s preparing to become a soldier.
Guinn also had an inspiring message for anyone else who might be struggling with their weight: Change is possible.
“It can be done, and, yes, for those that didn’t know [I’m] trying to go to military and will be a great start for my career and to push myself harder than ever before,” he wrote. “I will graduate from basic and M.I.T and start my career. I do see a change.”

Incredibly inspiring, to say the least.
