Sinead O’Connor opened up about her struggles with mental illness and pleaded for help in a tearful, profanity-laced video.
Her representatives have since followed up, assuring fans the embattled singer is doing ok and is not suicidal. A representative said that she’s “surrounded by love and receiving the best of care.”
In the 12-minute long video posted to her Facebook page on Aug. 3, the 50-year-old Irish singer is seen crying in what appears to be a motel room. O’Connor says she was living in a New Jersey motel and claims her family has abandoned her in the wake of her mental health issues.
O’Connor says in the video that she was suicidal and the only support she has is her psychiatrist and her doctor. She says was staying alive for the sake of others and if it were up to her, she’d already “be gone.”
Using the hashtag #OneOfMillions, O’Connor says she hoped “that this video is somehow helpful.”
Another post on her Facebook page allegedly written on O’Connor’s behalf late Monday said the performer was OK.
“Hi everybody, I am posting at Sinead’s request, to let everyone who loves her know she is safe, and she is not suicidal,” the post stated. “She is surrounded by love and receiving the best of care. She asked for this to be posted knowing you are concerned for her. I won’t respond to any questions, so please understand. I hope this comforts those of you were concerned.”
