A teen mother is facing charges after being accused of leaving her 8-month-old baby to die, after she placed the child in a plastic bag and put her under some bushes. The little girl miraculously survived three whole nights outside and alone, and it’s all thanks to two sisters who say God led them to the struggling baby.
Kayla Seals and her sister, Karen, told reporters they heard what they believed to be a dog in the neighbors yard, so they felt prompted to go check it out. What they found was a white bag with feet dangling out of it. They quickly sprang into action.
“I ran up and I see the little legs were dangling out of the bag. I said you guys, it’s a baby! I picked her up, I took her in the bathroom, I mean she was hardly breathing honey, her eyes weren’t even open,” Kayla said.
“So I tore the bag, that she was in. It was like a garbage bag, her head was in the bottom of the bag. And her legs were hanging out the front of the bag. And she wasn’t breathing. She opened her mouth and I dropped some water in there, and she started gasping after I did that. Her eyes weren’t opening, so I cleaned her eyes and spoke to her, ‘Come on baby! Come on baby! Come on sweetness!’ Then she opened right up to me.”
Kayla strongly believes it was God who prompted them to go check out the noise.
“It was God’s saying for me to go do this, for all of us to go see what was going on. And I thank God that happened.”.
The mom, 17-year-old Harriette Hoyt, is facing charges of attempted murder after leaving her own child to die while visiting a friend. Her baby is now in stable condition.
Kayla and her sister Karen called 911 after making the discovery. For the child to survive with no food or water, in a bag, for three days is nothing short of a miracle.
The sisters are being hailed as heroes by police. Had they arrived any later, this could’ve had a very different ending.
Prayers that this baby lands in a solid home, one where she will be unconditionally loved and cared for. There has been no motive provided for why this teen mother only now, 8 months after giving birth to her child, would seek to abandon her.
