The Bible is filled with references to the human “heart,” but, upon closer examination, it turns out that the many mentions of the bodily organ point well beyond its physical properties and functions.

In fact, as The Bible Project noted in a recent video, scripture points out that “the heart is the center of all parts of human existence,” including the physical, intellectual and emotional components.
The clip takes a deep look at the Hebrew word for “heart,” which is “lev” and explains that the heart is where human desires are rooted and where peoples’ “affections are centered.”
“There is no biblical word that captures better the essence of human thought, feeling, and desire, than this rich and wonderful word,” a video description reads.
